Flower Crown Magazine is a new digital magazine for young intersectional feminists! We are about having fun but not at the expense of the marginalized. We believe in the power of choice but we believe in examining those choices as well. We believe in body positivity! We believe in sex positivity that doesn't exclude asexuals. We believe in fighting for our sisters not just our cisters. And we resent and call out the silencing and erasure of women of color. We believe in self love. We are a lifestyle magazine with a socially conscious lean.
Not much seems unusual about Judian and Kadeian Brown’s storefront in a tidy plaza off Church Avenue in Flatbush, Brooklyn, a neighborhood where every block seems to have its own African hair-braiding salon.
Posters of African-American women with long, sleek hair fill the window. Round jars of shea butter belly up to slender boxes of hair dye on the shelves. Wigs perch on mannequin heads.
What makes Black Girls Divine Beauty Supply and Salon’s visitors do a double-take is the skin color of the proprietors. “I go, ‘Look at all the faces on the boxes,’ ” said Judian Brown, recalling other shopkeepers’ and customers’ surprise when they realize she is not an employee, but the owner. “Who should be owning these stores?” [My emphasis]
This is an absolutely heartbreaking case of police brutality. A 22 year old black man with down syndrome was beaten by the police for the bulge in his pants. That bulge turned out to be his colostomy bag. They ripped the bag off his body. This was an unprovoked attack. No one is safe out here.
Reblogging with updated link. The old one was dead.
Remember the case of 22 year old Gilberto Powell.
From a medical perspective this is horrifying, beyond the brutality he could’ve died from infection from a leak or trauma to his stoma.
I hate to hear you talk about all women as if they were fine ladies instead of rational creatures. None of us want to be in calm waters all our lives. - Jane Austen #janeausten #women #quotes #feminism
A young Jewish refugee with her Chinese playmates. Shanghai, China (x)
Between 1933 and 1941, it is estimated that 20,000 Jews escaped persecution by fleeing to the Chinese port of Shanghai. Shanghai was one of the few places in the world that would accept Jewish refugees at this time, Japan being another.
i am furious that i am just now learning about this important fact.
Because it has nothing to do with the USA being the superhero and saving all the Jews
